Smaller Government
Simpler Government

The role of government continues to expand into the lives of Australians, all the while the bureaucracy and complexity of the law increases.   The voters of Australia are not babies - we don't need the government telling us what to do, and increasing taxes for the advice!

Smaller Government

The Federal Government has become a jack of all trades, yet master of none.  It should focus on it's key areas -  i.e. defence, interstate highways and transport systems etc.  State Governments roles would be police, internal state roads, education etc.  By limiting government to it's essential roles, it will have more money and greater accountability in them.

I am also keen on greatly cutting taxes in Australia.  Time is money and when you tax Australians you are in reality taxing their time.   Lets keep taxes as small as possible and let Australians keep their lifestyle.

Simpler Government

Not only do we need limited government, we also need simpler laws.  Laws are often the result of pork-barrelling - politicians buying votes with promises.  We are all equal before the law, except if A, and not if B, and also C group is exempt.  The law has so many exception to the rule, that the rule hardly applies.

The more complex the law becomes, the bigger the bureaucracy and the more the loop holes.   This advantages the rich or the shifty.  How can the board members, the Australian voters, make good decisions when the law has so many twists and turns?

How can we make Government simpler?

Here is easy example - the GST.  Just pay S.A it's 8% of the total GST budget and then if the State Government mismanages it, it's obvious who to blame!  It's fair and it's simple.  All money given to the State Government should follow this formula.  All we get now is the Feds and State pointing at each other and lots of muddy water.

Take another issue - home affordability.   This is really a land affordability issue.  State Government restricts land supply, driving prices sky high.  Does government strike at the root of the problem - letting large land holders sub-divide or releasing sufficient land?  No!  It uses taxpayers money to for home-grants and subsidies for select people.  What is the effect?  It raises prices for everybody, creates a bigger bureaucracy and sends more profits to banks, land speculators etc.

Simply the law - address the root of the problem rather than pruning the branches.
