I support the building of the desalination plants, though I think storm-water harvesting should be the principle source of water. I think a desal plant is an important backup incase of prolonged drought. You can't harvest water that does not fall.
The desal plant should be revenue neutral (in line with my policy of price linking) - in other words the price per litre should be enough and no more to cover the production of water and the repaying of the debt to build the desal plant.
I accept that Gulf St Vincent may not be the best place to put a desal plant due to lack of tidal movements and dodge tides. Areas between Streaky Bay and Port Lincoln may be more appropriate.
