Police play one of the most important roles in our society.
I would like to see the amount of police officers increased as well as the amount of resources allocated to them. I believe the force is stretched too thin.
I also believe that the majority of crime is committed by a minority of the population. They do not respect the law because a punishment may only be a "slap on the wrist". This is particularly true for repeat offenders.
I acknowledge that some offenders have been influenced by their upbringing, but this is small compensation for the victims of their crimes. I believe almost everyone knows what is right and what is wrong.
I believe greater resources and numbers of officers is a superior method than police powers that infringe civil liberties.
As policing is a core role of government, I would see other programs being shut down to divert funds to them.
