I have 3 simple conditions for citizenship and immigration.
1. Loyalty
first to Australia and it's people
2. Learn English
3. Respect the law
Firstly, let me state that I believe the vast majority of New Australians embrace these 3 values. I believe these people, over the years, have greatly enhanced our lifestyle, arts, cuisine and our political life.
Loyalty
Australian's first loyalty should be to the people of Australia. You may
disagree with the Government and still be a loyal citizen - this is a great
feature of democracy. Loyalty means that you have the happiness of the
Australian people as your priority. You may still cook, make music, build
houses like your ancestors have and still be a loyal Australian citizen.
Learn
English
Communication is the great common denominator that prevents divisions in a
community. English is the official language, and all immigrants should
quickly learn it. When all people in the nation can communicate with each
other, you can prevent much prejudice, misunderstanding and division at a
grassroots level. I have no problem with ethnic communities that speak in
native tongues, both publicly and privately.
Respect
the Law
All newcomers and natural born citizens should respect the law of the land.
Citizens may respect the law and still try to change it through democratic
paths. Respect means you acknowledge politicians have been chosen by the
majority of the people and made these laws. Respect means that you give up
old harmful customs that are illegal under Australian law.
