A Happy
Valley photographer who ran for Mayor of Onkaparinga last year, has
officially nominated as an independent candidate for the Senate this
week.
"While all the big parties are making big cash promises, I am calling
for a smaller and simpler Federal government. It seems they have got the
Australian taxpayer's credit card and are not afraid to use it"
said Stewart Glass.
Mr Glass is a unique candidate in a number of ways. He was the first
South Australian independent to announce his nomination1 , has publicly
declared he will refuse public funding2, and thinks politicians wages
should be linked to the national average3.
Stewart Glass, aged 34, has been married for 10 years and has a young
family of 2 boys in Primary school and a little daughter in Kindy. He
and his wife also adopted a mortgage a few years ago.
He was particularly motivated to enter politics when he saw how
government interference has caused the land affordability crisis.
"I think we are increasingly turning into a Nanny State – the Government
treats it's voters like little children – making decisions for them that
adults can competently make for themselves, and then burdening us with
high taxes for the privilege" said the independent.
On the topic of running as an independent Mr Glass stated "Though I have
had offers to join several parties over the years, I have always
refused. I want to promote the best solution for problems that confront
us, not just tow the party line. I will give credit where credit is due,
no matter which party it comes from. There is too much political
opportunism in politics".
Mr Glass is using his web site www.StewartGlass.net to let voters learn
more about him and his plans for reform. It contains policies,
background information, and contact details.
